The thought of being a recording artist herself, never crossed her mind until her early 20's. But what attracted her the most to musical composition was not only the lyrics, but the way in how the words were being delivered & the emotions behind them. With this early fascination with words, as well as an interest in the writing process of film and television production, Angi felt that the closest she could possibly get to creative writing on a pro level, was to be a screenwriter. So after high school, she headed west, moving to Long beach, California and attended California State University, Long Beach, to pursue a degree in Film and Electronic Arts. During the three-month following graduation during post-production of her senior thesis film, Angi became instantly triggered to start developing and honing the skill set of Hip Hop music. Not only does Angi owes this triggered inspiration to other Hip Hop and other musical artists, but more heavily so to historical religious figures like Jesus and Prophet Mohammed.
She is now an aspiring rapper who considers her music to be conceptual pieces of work that make references to social, political, and gender-related issues. Also in her mix are songs that are fun and upbeat, and that tie cinematic & cultural references; given she is a film enthusiast as well. But she is extremely zealous over other hip-hop lyricists and considers herself a student of the myriad versatile techniques. Among her influences are Lauryn Hill, The Fugees, Nas, Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, Jay Electronica, A Tribe Called Quest, Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, KRS One, Wu-Tang Clan, Kanye West, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Drake, Immortal Technique, Low Key, and many more.
Although she puts her love for music above her love for film, and claims to be an avid soldier of lyricism, Angi The Artist also considers herself an overall artist who in the future hopes to leverage a career as rapper to a career in film and television production. She aspires to be a director, cinematographer, screenwriter, and actress, as well as become a social activist for disenfranchised people and communities.
